Norman Veber founded the the Maryland Automotive Modelers'
Association (MAMA) with about one dozen members at our
first meeting on Saturday September 17th, 1988. Today,
with more than 200 members on our roster, MAMA is one
of, if not the, largest model car club in the United
States.
Big as it is, MAMA is still an informal group of automotive
enthusiasts who are dedicated to the hobby of collecting
and building scale model cars, trucks, motorcycles, and
other wheeled vehicles. Our meetings are celebrations
of friendship, the exchange of ideas, meeting and helping
other modelers, sparking people's interest in the hobby
for the first time (or once again), and generally promoting
the model car building and collecting hobbies. We are
mainly about having fun -- Each meeting has the feel of
an NNL-style show and swapmeet. If you attend just one
meeting, we're sure you'll keep coming back.
Every month we gather to talk about models, diecasts,
and automotive items of interest. No contests -- just
bring your models and show 'em. Some form of group entertainment
usually highlights each meeting, such as building clinics,
talks on various aspects of the hobby, slide shows of
contests, etc. To raise funds, we hold a monthly raffle
of model kits and related items donated by members and
various outside sources (such as local hobby vendors,
friends of friends, etc).

MAMA meets on the third Saturday
of each month at the Salaried
Employees Association (SEA) Union Hall located at
1300 Hanover Road, Hanover, MD 21076. If you find
yourself in Maryland, Virginia, Central Pennsylvania,
or Washington, D.C. on the third Saturday of any month,
stop by and visit with us. We have some members who ocassionally
trek from as far away as West Virginia, Delaware, and
New Jersey! We usually have around 40-50 people at a meeting
(but the room really gets packed in December when
we hold our holiday feast!), so you're sure to find someone
who shares your interest in a particular model car subject.

Joining MAMA couldn't be easier, just attend a meeting
and enjoy yourself. There are no dues or fees. Although,
trying to quit can be costly! :-)
Seriously, if you like model cars (plastic or diecast),
please come to a meeting, bring your models, and check
us out. But be warned: Our main goal is to have a good
time, and we DO.
If you'd like to find out more about MAMA, you can email
our president, Tim
Powers, our vice-president,
Dave Toups, our treasurer, Matt
Guilfoyle, our newsletter editor, Tim
